This article walks through the activation of the TronDesigner–TronManager integration and the basic permission setup. It's intended for administrators with access to TronManager settings.
In this article:
- Requirements
- Step 1 – Activate the integration
- Step 2 – Configure default permissions for your customers
- Deactivation
- Troubleshooting
Requirements
Before activating the integration, you need:
- An active TronManager instance.
- An active TronDesigner instance linked to the same organization as your TronManager. The license must include the TronManager integration.
- Administrator access in TronManager Settings.
- A user account with TronDesigner permissions for advanced configuration (Editor Behavior, Print Jobs, Logos).
If your TronDesigner license is not active or your plan doesn't include the TronManager integration, activation will not succeed.
Step 1 – Activate the integration
- In TronManager, go to Settings → Integration.
- Click the button Activate TronDesigner Integration.
- The system automatically validates your TronDesigner license.
Settings → Integration page with activation button and intro text
Once activated, TronManager automatically creates two API keys in TronDesigner:
- Admin Portal API Key – enables design features in your admin area (the catalog palette icon, the Create Design button in offer groups, etc.).
- Customer Portal (Offer) API Key – enables design features your customers see in the offer preview.
TronDesigner admin portal → API Keys page
Both keys are validated automatically. Admin doesn’t have to do anything. Keys in TronDesigner are read-only.
When the connection is ready, you'll see a green status message in the top right, and Customer Portal settings become available.
Integration settings
If activation fails, the admin is prompted to contact sales:
If TronDesigner is not active
If TronDesigner doesn't include the TronManager feature
Step 2 – Configure default permissions for your customers
Once the connection is established, the Global Settings – Customer Portal section becomes editable. This is where you set the default permissions that apply to all new offers.
You have five parameters:
| Parameter | What it does |
| Show Print Design | Controls whether the Print Design section appears in offer previews at all. Acts as a master switch – if turned off, the other controls are automatically disabled. |
| Create Design | Allows customers to create a new design for products with full print data. |
| Edit Design | Allows customers to modify an existing design. |
| Download visual proof | Allows customers to download the technical PDF proof for any group with a design. |
| Remove Design | Allows customers to remove an existing design. The Print Job stays in the TronDesigner and can be accessed only there. The relation to the offer and group in TronManager is deleted. |
By default, all five parameters are enabled. To save the configuration, you have to click Save. You can uncheck the ones you don't want and then click Save.

Parameters are checked by default only at the first activation.
Dependency rules:
- If Show Print Design is off, the other four are automatically off (and locked).
- If Create Design is on, Edit Design is automatically on (and locked) – because once a customer creates a design, the button becomes "Edit" on the next visit.
Deactivation
You can deactivate the integration at any time. In Settings → Integration, click the ‘Deactivate’ button. The print jobs you've created remain stored in TronDesigner – they're not deleted – and you can reactivate the integration later to access them again.
When the integration is deactivated:
- The palette icons in the TronCloud catalog product cards become inactive.
- The whole print design section is not displayed on the customer portal. Only the existing print job previews are still displayed on the customer portal as product images (until the print job is removed).
- For offers with print jobs, it is possible only to remove the print job.
- New designs can't be created until the integration is reactivated. Existing designs can't be edited either.
Troubleshooting
The activation button is disabled. Your TronDesigner license may not be active, or your current plan may not include the TronManager integration. Check your license validity in TronDesigner, or contact your sales representative.
The integration was working, but now nothing happens when I click the design buttons. Your TronDesigner license may have expired, or the TronManager feature of your plan may have changed. Check Settings → Integration for current status. If everything looks correct but issues persist, contact support.
Next steps
- Configure and use the integration: see Configuring and using the TronDesigner integration.
- Contact sales for a guided demo or to check if your TronManager plan includes TronDesigner.
